YALI NETWORK ABUJA REPORT ON THE JOINT PRESS STATEMENT ISSUED BY YOUTHS IN AFRICA ANTI-CORRUPTION NETWORK ON THE ONGOING NATIONAL ASSEMBLY INVESTIGATION ON THE NIGER DELTA DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION (NDDC)
YALI Network Abuja collaborates with Youths in Africa Anti-Corruption Network (YIAA Network), ELITE West African (Nigeria) Network and other concerned Nigerian Youths to issue a Joint Press Statement on the Ongoing National Assembly Investigation On The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
As a network that upholds transparency and accountability at its core, we are very particular about holding our leaders accountable. It is disheartening to receive the news of grand scale corruption in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC); following the numerous accusations and counter accusations between the Minister of Niger Delta –Senator Godswill Akpabio and the erstwhile Managing Director of the CommissionDr. Joi Nunieh as well as the shameful drama presented by Professor Pondei the Acting Managing Director of the Commission.
The untold sufferings and abject poverty in the Niger Delta Region, it is regrettable that the agency saddled with the responsibility of ameliorating the sufferings of the Region has become “a cash cow” for a few people.
It is on the account of this trending allegations, accusations and revelations we collaborate with Youths in Africa Anti-Corruption Network (YIAA Network), and Elite West Africa (Nigeria Network) together to register our position.
OUR FINAL POSITION
a. That the erstwhile Managing Director of the Commission Dr. Joi Nunieh should be properly investigated by the Code of Conduct Bureau;
b. Immediate suspension of the Minister of Niger Delta- Senator Godswill Akpabio;
c. Immediate suspension of the Acting Managing Director of the Commission;
d. National Assembly to continue their investigation on the Commission and its officials
e. That the National Assembly to re-invite the Acting Managing Director of NDDC for full investigation;
f. Pay all outstanding fees of our youths and students abroad
g. That all witnesses in the ongoing probe should be protected by the Police.
h. That the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission(ICPC), the Code of Conduct Bureau and other related agencies should immediately commence full blown investigation into the alleged financial crimes and abuse of office(s) in the Niger Delta Development Commission.
